Curriculum

Main research interests: i) characterization of organic matter in soils and sediments, ii) evolution of organic matter in soils and sediments in relation to climate changes, iii) peatlands as 'natural archives' of environmental changes and anthropic impact during centuries, and iv) sustainable utilization of waste biomass in agriculture.
He is member of the following scientific societies: European Geosciences Union (EGU), International Humic Substances Society (IHSS), International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS), Italian Society of Soil Science (SISS), and Italian Society of Agricultural Chemistry (SICA). He is also member of the Accademia dei Georgofili.
He is currently Chair of the Division 4 "The Role of Soils in Sustaining Society and the Environment" of the IUSS, Vice President / President Elect of the SISS, Member of the Advisory Board of the IHSS. From 2019 to 2023, he served as a President of the Soil System Sciences division of the EGU.
He is currently member of the Editorial Board of the following WoS-JCR journals: Critical Reviews in Environmental Science and Technology (Taylor & Francis), Soil & Environmental Health (Elsevier), Journal of Soils and Sediments (Springer), Soil (Copernicus Publications), Pedosphere (Elsevier), Soil Systems (MDPI), Cogent Food & Agriculture (Taylor & Francis) and Journal of Chemistry (Wiley).
