The Analytical Chemistry module is centered on the knowledge of the most widely used instrumental analytical methodologies, together with the working principles of the basic equipment. Moreover, it deals with the practical aspects of the laboratory equipment used in several analytical determinations used in the food science, environmental science and industrial fields.
Introduction.
Spectroscopic analytical methods. Spectroscopic techniques: Uv-visible absorption, IR, Raman, fluorescence and phosphorescence, atomic spectroscopy. Basic principles of the equipment.
Mass spectrometry. Basic principles. Equipment. Fragmentation mechanisms. Analysis of mass spectra.
Methods of chromatographic analysis. Principles of chromatography. Chromatographic tecniques. Gaschromatography: equipment and applications. High performance liquid chromatography: equipment; partition, adsorption, ion exchange and size exclusion chromatography.
