Topic People Description
Microbially synthesized nanomaterials Silvia Lampis
The interest focuses on the synthesis of nanomaterials (nanoparticles or nanotubes) by microorganisms such bacteria (including actinomycetes) and fungi (both molds and yeasts), and the possible exploitation of these bio-synthesized nanostructures in different applicative fields (e.g. to hinder the formation on or to eradicate microbial biofilms from thr surfaces). Attention is given (1) to microbial strains - both already available and new - capable for instance to induce nanoparticle formation by transforming metals and metalloids, and (2) to the understanding of the mechanisms of microbial nanoparticle biosynthesis, including the conditions for the control of their sizes.
