The purpose of the course is to give knowledge about: morphology, anatomy, biology and ecology of insects and vine’s dangerous mites; diagnosis on plants pests connected with animals; arthropods rational control with particular attention to phytosanitary product, biotechnologies applied to arthropods, biological control and integrated pest management.
Programme:
Animal kingdom classification. Main Phyla description and evolution lines. Arthropods. Elements of insects morphology, physiology and ethology. Nervous, digestion, respiratory, circulatory, reproductive and endocrine systems. Breeding and development. Biological cycles and spreading. Population dynamic: biotic potential and environmental resistance. Factors affecting the injury of economically important arthropods: biological equilibrium and pullulation causes. Relations between insects and other organisms. Viruses and pathogens transmission. Insects control. Threshold levels and application criteria. Biological and integrated control. Phytosanitary products: generality, plant protection legislation and use. Phytosanitary product: efficacy, selectivity and phytotoxicity, resistance and man made pests. Orders and main families. Biology, damage and control of the main species that cause damages on grape (e.g. moth, phylloxera, leafhoppers, scales and thrips). Grape’s minor pests. Mites morphology and anatomy. Grape mites biology, ecology and damages. Nematodes of viticultural interest. Biological and integrated control against grape arthropods.
The exam will be made with oral questions.
