The aim of the Analytical Chemistry Module is to give the students the basical knowledge on the instrumental analytical techniques of widest use, together with the working principles of the equipment used. It also intend to give a good level of confidence in the use of common laboratory instruments, used in food, environmental and industrial analysis.
The Analytical Chemistry laboratory course lasts 3 half days during which 3 types of experiments are performed:
1) Determination of the nitrate content of water using spectrophotometric techniques.
2) Determination of the isosbestic point of an acid-base compound using visible spectrophotometry.
3) Photosynthetic pigment extraction from spinach leaves using chromatographic techniques.
Using the computer facilities present in the Analytical Chemistry Laboratory, the data collected during the experiments will be used to prepare the final report.
A final report must be prepared by the students before they are allowed to take the final oral examination in Analytical Chemistry.
