The aim of the Analytical Chemistry Module is to give the students the basical knowledge on the instrumental analytical techniques of widest use, together with the working principles of the equipment used. It also intend to give a good level of confidence in the use of common laboratory instruments, used in food, environmental and industrial analysis.
Introduction
Analytical techniques. Signal and rumor. Statistic analysis and data treatment.
Spectrophotometric analysis
Spectroscopic techniques. Absorption spectrophotometric analysis. Spectrophotometric titrations. UV-visible spectrophotometry. IR spectroscopy. FTIR spectrophotometer. Fluorescence and phosphorescence. Spectrofluorimeters.
Mass spectrometry
Instrument, desorption techniques, analyzers and detectors. MS MS techniques. Some examples of mass spectra from small an macro molecules.
Chromatographic methods of analysis
Chromatography principles. Equilibrium extraction with solvents. Chromatographic parameters and column efficiency. Qualitative and quantitative analysis. TLC. Gas chromatography principles and instrumentation. Principles and equipments for column chromatography. Absorption chromatography. Normal and inverse phase liquid chromatography. high performance liquid chromatography.
