The final aim of this project is to identify additional genes potentially involved in the seed development and thus possibly affecting the seed number and seed size in table grape beside seedlessness. The final idea would be to identify possible genetic sources of utility for table grape breeding.
As a pilot project we have selected to determine the functional conservation of INO involvement in ovule formation between Arabidopsis and grapevine. Moreover the project will also try to develop alternative strategies to enquires the possible involvement of INO and eventually alternative candidates in modulating seedlessness or seed size and number in grape and thus of possible application for seed table breeding. All togheter the project will help to design a general strategy to test the possible role of functional candidates for table grape breeding.
