Curriculum

Main research fields
Study of the first phases of fruit development, identification of molecular mechanisms regulating flower-fruit transition.
Symbiotic interaction between legume and N-fixing bacteria; host early responses to rhizobial infection.
The effects of  protein hydrolysates on root growth and development.
Biological activity of small molecules (sRNA e peptides) on plant development.
The research expertises include plant genetic engineering, design and preparation of constructs for plant gene silencing and overexpression, gene expression analysis, molecular characterization of GM plants, RNAi application to gene function discovery.

Applicazioni biotecnologiche per il miglioramento qualitativo e quantitativo della produzione in orticoltura L'attività di ricerca è finalizzata: 1) all'ottenimento di sviluppo partenocarpico del frutto in specie di interesse agrario; 2) al conferimento di resistenza a virus in piante legnose mediante RNA silencing; 3) all'ottenimento di anticipo della fioritura/fruttificazione in specie di interesse agrario; 4) allo studio di peptidi del frutto con potenziale attività nutraceutica. Studio delle basi molecolari sottese alla simbiosi e allo sviluppo del frutto L'attività di ricerca è incentrata: 1) sulle risposte precoci messe in atto da piante leguminose in risposta all'infezione da parte di batteri N-fissatori (rizobi); 2) sulle prime fasi di sviluppo del frutto, ed in particolare sull'allegagione che rappresenta la fase di transizione da fiore a frutto. La ricerca ha scopi sia euristici, ovvero volti ad incrementare le conoscenze di base, sia applicativi, ovvero volti al miglioramento qualitativo e quantitativo della produzione in orticoltura.
