Curriculum

Chiara Nardon is a bio-inorganic chemist who works in the fields of Pharmaceutical Inorganic Chemistry and Radiochemistry.

She graduated in Chemistry at the University of Padua in 2009 (established in 1222) and obtained a PhD in Molecular Sciences in 2013 with a Thesis on the Design and preclinical development of new antitumor agents to be used in precision medicine.

After some years of post-doctoral research supported by Grants, Scholarships and Awards, she was appointed Assistant Professor in 2018 at the Department of Chemical Sciences of the University of Padua. In November 2019 she took up service as tenure-track Assistant Professor at the Department of Biotechnology of the University of Verona. In 2022 she was appointed Associate Professor at the same Department, followed by the set up of the new Biomedical Chemistry Lab.

The research activities, carried out in collaboration with other Italian and international groups, focus on the following topics:

1. Design and preclinical development of new potential anticancer drugs:

  • synthesis of organic compounds (ligands)
  • synthesis of coordination compounds based on endogenous (e.g., Cu, Fe) and exogenous (e.g., Ru) metals
  • physico-chemical-characterization by various techniques (e.g. NMR, ESI-MS, FT-IR, UV-Vis, elemental analysis)
  • study of solubility and stability in physiological media
  • In vitro and in vivo tests of biological activity and toxicological profile
  • study of the mechanism of action

2. Study of new radioactive agents to be used in therapy, diagnostics and theranostics, for example based on 61Cu, 64Cu, 67Cu, 68Ga or 161Tb, 165Yb and 177Lu
3. Design and preparation of supramolecular architectures for target-specific drug delivery

4. Study of the role of endogenous metals (e.g. Cu, Fe, Zn) in models containing cancer stem cells
