Principali interessi di ricerca:
(i) i cicli biogeochimici del carbonio e dell’azoto nel suolo,
(ii) la formazione e il turnover delle interazioni organo-minerali applicando tecniche analitiche che richiedano la radiazione di sincrotrone,
(III) i processi di cristallizzazione e trasformazione dei minerali di ferro in suoli sottoposti a condizioni redox.
Durante la sua esperienza di ricerca ha assicurato numerosi beamtimes presso Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste e partecipato a beamtimes presso Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource (SSRL), Menlo Park (USA) e Brookhaven National Laboratory (NSLS-II), Upton (USA).
E' membro delle seguenti società scientifiche: EGU (European Geosciences Union), IHSS (International Humic Substances Society), SISS (Società Italiana della Scienza del Suolo), SICA (Società Italiana di Chimica Agraria).
E' attualmente Committee Member della Commissione SSS12 "Soil Policy and Legislation" dell'EGU, Sindaco effettivo della SISS.
