Learning outcomes

The main aim of the course is give to students the tools for the comprehension of the transport phenomena and mass and energy balance, which are foundamentals for the process engineering of biochemical plants.

Syllabus

1. Introduction

Preview of some operation units and applications in biotechnological plants for the production of primary and secondary metabolites.

2. Mass and energy balances

The following themes will be considered:
- mass and energy balance in biotechnolgical processes
- energy requests for aerobic and anaerobic bioprocesses

3. Transport phenomena

The following themes will be considered:
- mass transport phenomena
- energy transport phenomena
- momentum transport phenomena

Assessment methods and criteria

Two written tests will be given
