Syllabus

General concepts on plant pathology, description of the principal plant pathogens, their life cycles and virulence factors. Symptom analysis and description.
Examples: Plasmopara viticola; Erysiphe necator; Botrytis cinerea; Erwinia amylovora; Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato; Candidatus Phytoplasma spp.; TMV.
• Plant-pathogen interaction and plant resistance.
• Diagnosis of plant pathogens with traditional, molecular and serological techniques.
• Basic concepts in epidemiology, plant disease management and control.
Biotechnological applications in phytopathology: transgenic resistant plants; use of plant viruses as biotechnological tools
