Overview

The course offers a basic preparation in the field of biotechnology in both theoretical and experimental aspects. The graduate will be able to critically perform experimental biotechnological procedures, learning the correct use of the appropriate instruments, analyzing and integrating the information obtained.
These competences will be achieved through the study of basic scientific subjects including mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology, along with subjects able to provide molecular and cellular knowledge of biological systems as well as an adequate technological culture and skills for biological data management by informatics tools.
The training also includes specific courses in the agri-food, environmental-industrial-bioresources, and molecular-medical sectors. In support of traditional teaching, the course includes intense laboratory activity in all the years of the course and a final internship to be held at a university laboratory or accredited company.
The course aims to train competent professionals in the biotechnological and related fields (biological, biochemical, microbiological).
The employment opportunities mainly concern the chemical and chemical-pharmaceutical industry, public and private research laboratories in the health, agri-food and environmental sectors and technology transfer and services companies.
The degree course in Biotechnology is scheduled access with admission test.
For the academic year 2018/19 the available places are 120.
The admission test includes questions in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
In the event that a student is admitted to the course having obtained an overall score of less than 6 in the two tests of Mathematics and Physics and overall less than 4 in the two tests of Chemistry and Biology, additional learning requirements (OFA) must be completed within the first year of the course.

This includes an Overview and three public sections (Learning Objectives, Student Experience, Learning Outcomes) which together provide a wide range of information about each degree programme. The SUA-CdS also contains an administrative section (Administration and Quality Management) that is for internal use only.

The Degree programme annual factsheet (SUA-CdS), which is currently available only in Italian, is a valuable tool that can be used by the University to design, implement and reorganise, as well as to evaluate, each degree programme. However, the SUA-CdS factsheet is also useful for students, to help them choose the right programme of study.
